  • Having traveled extensively for many years now and worked for an airline for 10 years, I’ve learned a thing or two about packing and traveling efficiently. When I pack my 21 inch rollaboard I always include my cameras, medications, jewelry, electronic devices, any important documents, and a change of clothing just in case my checked baggage is lost. Up until recently, this method has worked for me. [more]

  • General
  •   PizzeriaOutdoorsOne of the main pleasures of travel for me is food. Food not only sustains my body, but helps feed my heart, mind and soul. I think this stems from memories centered on the wonderful aromas from my grandmother’s kitchen and around our family meals – many shared with extended family and friends. Food connects me to other people as a cultural experience to be remembered and cherished.[more]

  • A world tour comes to an end

  • Fares and Pricing
    General
  • One of the sobering parts of travel is that you eventually have to go home. Airports can be lonely places after saying goodbye to dear friends and the cherished part of the world they live. I can remember taking off from Nice, in the South of France, and flying  over the Mediterranean, unable to look back at the famous coastline of the Cote d’Azur as the plane looped back for its journey to Paris. Some journeys change us, as we leave behind more than just cities and landmarks but friendships and memories.

I had been visiting a dear friend of mine who happens to be the most seasoned and adventurous traveler that I know. She’s currently on a six month trip around the world, traveling to the Americas, Polynesia, Australia and New Zealand, and finally, Asia.

We can teach you how to book that kind of itinerary in AeU, but we can’t teach you how to tap into the emotions of a traveler who seeks adventure and something greater than just another tour or commercial experience. [more]

  • Do you know what an "infographic" is? According to Wikipedia, infographics are graphic visual representations of information, data, or knowledge. You know the expression, "a picture is worth a thousand words?" In this case, it certainly rings true. Infographics make otherwise boring stats so much more fun and interesting. Not only is it a fun way to disseminate information, its also a fun way to promote your business. You can create an infographic of your services and products, or better yet, create one related to your industry and brand it. Publish it on your blog, and post the link on Facebook and Twitter use an appropriate hashtag such as #infographics or use your company name. It's a great way to establish yourself as an industry leader and gain more followers, fans, and traffic. Here are six informative infographics related to travel and technology that clearly sum up the state of today's travel industry: [more

  • Over 20 million people participated in the first Earth Day on April 22, 1970. Gaylord Nelson, U.S. Senator from Wisconsin called for an "environmental teach-in" after witnessing the 1969 oil spill in Santa Barbara, California. Today, more than 500 million people and several national governments in 175 countries celebrate to increase awareness and appreciation of the Earth's natural environment.

"Mobilize the Earth" is this year's Earth Day theme. What will you do? Maybe one of these five ideas will move you. [more]

  • There are plenty of reasons to feel overwhelmed when traveling these days - whether you’re the traveler or the one booking the travel, but you don’t have to succumb to the hassles. Despite the added fees, tweets, Facebook rants, and cramped quarters, there is still joy in looking out the window of a plane and knowing that your headed somewhere besides “home.” Unless you crash onto a deserted island inhabited by a monster and natives who want to kill you.  [more]

  • Running around the world: marathon runners are avid travelers!

  • General
  • If you're in the travel industry, you might already know that running marathons is not just a form of exercise, but a popular way for active people to see the world. Serious runners plan trips around marathon events years ahead of time. Whether it's the New York marathon or the Big Five in South Africa, thousands of runners travel far and wide for the chance to run their guts out and spend some quality time in the event city.

This Tuesday marks the second anniversary of my most daring, satisfying and painful accomplishment: I ran a 26.2 mile jaunt through the Disney resort area in Orlando, FL area in freezing cold (yes, Orlando gets freezing). I didn't prepare as well as I should have and a knee injury two weeks prior to the race kept my physical activity limited until the start. I should not have run this race. • Besides traveling the world and coaxing my colleagues to talk about their work on camera, I love movies. But, you've probably already figured that out if you've been reading my blog for the last few years.

In December, there is a specific genre that appeals to me as I flip though the channels or visit the theaters: The Holiday Movie.

Holiday movies  are often travel-themed as well, which makes them extra fun, so let's discuss my five favorite holiday movies.

  • When wandering, lead with your stomach.

  • General
  • I told the taxi driver, “Do not take me anywhere that serves nachos. Doing so would not be wise.” At least, that’s what I think I said because my Spanish is less than stellar. I was in Cozumel and I did not want to eat where everyone else on my cruise ship was going. I love a good tropical adult beverage and greasy, cheesy, imitation Mexican food as much as the next guy, but I wanted the real thing and this was my chance. I wanted to eat where the locals eat. I dreamt of delicious, authentic tacos al pastor with fresh meat shaved off the spit with a frighteningly large sword. I wanted to taste dishes the way they’re supposed to taste. I wanted real Mexican cuisine!

Sometimes things are too real. [more]

  • I Wander -- San Diego

  • General
  •

This is the week. The week in which coolness, nerdness, compulsiveness, and excess all explode within a few square blocks of downtown San Diego. The San Diego Comic-Con is not for the meek and never will you find a greater hive of scum and faux villainy in your life. Imagine 130,000 people—some in colorful and elaborate costumes—invading your downtown area to learn about the latest movies, TV shows and games, meet actors, directors, and creators from all kinds of media, buy books, comic books, games, toys, and endure a multi-sensory assault that cannot be imagined; unless you see it for yourself, of course.

I’ve wandered there twice and there’s a lesson in here for all of the travel agencies out there. [more]

  • I LOVE to travel! It’s an absolute passion of mine you might say. Meeting new people, learning about local culture, art, architecture and taking my usual multitude of pictures excites and nourishes my soul.

When I’m away and stay in a hotel, I like to stay in properties that offer specific facilities and amenities to make my stay more enjoyable, relaxing, and comfortable. Occasionally, I even travel with my four legged best friend Gypsy. Did you know that some really nice hotels are actually pet-friendly? It’s become very popular in the last couple of years and what a great alternative to leaving your pet in a kennel.

Here’s a great time saver when you’re searching for just the right hotel with the right amenities and facilities to meet your client’s needs.   [more]

  • Amadeus e-University
    General
  • Let me try to take you back to your childhood. Strangely enough, though, I don’t want to take you back to fun, sweet memories. I want you to imagine yourself as a six-year old child in a family living on less than $US2 a day and in slum conditions. You’re part of the 50% of the people in a capital city without access to a latrine. You’re part of the two-thirds of the people without access to tap water. You’re not growing up learning or reading, playing with toys or friends from school. You don’t have a school to go to. You grow up trying to survive. And you do. You survive the worst earthquake in 200 years—and lose everyone in your family. But you're given hope. [read more]
